H.L.Dr. Mar Yohannan Yoseph Episcopa
Mar Yohannan Yoseph was born at East fort, Trichur on 14th of November, 1966. He is the seventh of the nine children of Therattil Chirakkekaran Antony and his wife Annah (Cicily teacher). He went to school at first to the Chaldean Syrian PrimarySchool and then to the Model High School for Boys. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (B.Com) from the Calicut University in 1989. He studied Theology at the Mar Thoma Theological Seminary, Kottayam (1990 - 1994) and earned the Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.) from the University of Serampur, Kolkatha , India. He stayed at St. Ephrem Ecumenical Research Institute, Kottayam (1998-2000) and received his Master’s Degree (M.A.) in Syriac Language and Literature from the Mahatma Gandhi University , Kottayam , India, in 2000. At the end of the same year he went to Iraq and stayed there till March, 2003 to continue Syriac studies. He received his Doctorate in Syriac Language and Literature from the Mahatma Gandhi University in 2017.
On 16th of April, 1989 Late H.L. Dr. Poulose Mar Poulose Episcopa ordained him as Deacon at Mar Adhai Sleeha Church, Paravattani. On 11th of April,1999 His Grace Dr. Mar Aprem Metropolitan ordained him as priest at Mar Yohannan Mamdhana Church, East Fort, Thrissur. During the period from 1996 to 1998 he worked as the Secretary to H.G.Dr. Mar Aprem Metropolitan and H.L. Dr. Poulose Mar Poulose Episcopa.
He served as the assistant vicar of Mar Narsai Church Kachery, St. Thomas Church Ernakulam, Mar Qardhakh Sahdha Church Chennai, Mar Sleeva Church Cochin, Mart Mariyam Church Koratty, Mar Timotheus Church Calicut, Mar Beesho Church Puthoor, Mar Adhai Sleeha Church, Paravattani and Mar Oudisho Church at Baghdad. He took the initative to construct Mar Abdisho Church at Kottayam which was later declared as a Parish while he was the appointed vicar there. He served also as the president of Mar Thoma Ashram (Orphanage for Boys) at Mulayam.
On 17th of January,2010 he was consecrated as Episcopa of the Holy Catholic Assyrian Church of the East for the Archdiocese of India by H.H Maran Mar Dinkha IV.
